Good times for NOVAWS

Things have been going well with NOVAWS lately. We've launched our newest site, Strategic Alliance Employment & Consulting Services, Inc. (SAECS), and we our currently working with a good friend of mine, Bill Boebel, to develop a site for Discount Newspaper Printing (DNP) which is a printing company owned by his family.

After the site has been developed the plan is to host, maintain, and provide web marketing for DNP. We are all pretty excited about this because the end goal of NOVAWS is to completely take care of a small business's web needs. We want to provide services, such as, register domains, provide hosting, web design and development, graphic design, perform search engine optimization and web marketing for our client's. Basically, we want NOVAWS to be a company's online department and this should be a good step in that direction.

New Beginnings

Northern Virginia Web Solutions recently signed a new client, Strategic Alliance Employment & Consulting Services, Inc. and we are really excited to have them on board. But what I am equally excited about is that this will be my first site that I'll be working with a old friend of mine, Ashish Sethi. We worked together at Gannett/USA Today for 3 years and he does amazing work.

Ashish gives us the ability to create Flash web sites and brings 6 valuable years of graphic design experience to the table. Welcome Ashish!

Hokies in the Final Four

JP's Power Rankings - Week 4

Great games this weekend with some upsets, poundings, and last minute victories. As always, opinions are welcome.

JP's Power Rankings for Week 4

1.	USC	2-0	The Trojans just keep on rolling.
2.	Ohio State	3-0	Better not play the way you did versus the Bearcats during the first half against the Nittany Lions this weekend.
3.	Auburn	3-0	They won the annual Battle of the Tigers and their path to the SEC Championship just got a lot easier.
4.	West Virginia	3-0	The Slaton and White attack came out flying against the Terps. They should have an easy time until Louisville.
5.	Michigan	3-0	Huge win in front of Touchdown Jesus should save Lloyd's job for another year.
6.	Florida	3-0	Big win at Rocky Top, only Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, FSU and possibly the SEC Championship to go.
7.	LSU	2-1	Tough loss on the Plains, but with that much talent they should stay in the Top 10.
8.	Georgia	3-0	Quiety the Bulldogs are marching into the National Championship picture.
9.	Louisville	3-0	They spanked a solid Miami team without Michael Bush and Brian Brohm. It's scary to think how good they could be with both of them healthy.
10.	Virginia Tech	3-0	One more game left in the preseason for the Hokies. Then its time to get to work with Georgia Tech.

With college football now in full effect, I've decided to come up with my own power rankings. As always, Opinions are welcome. Enjoy the games this weekend.

JP's Power Rankings for Week 2

1.	USC	1-0	Will John David Booty win the Hesiman? Ok, you can stop laughing now. If he keeps it up he'll join the ranks of Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. I can hear the chants at the Hesiman cermony now, "Booty, Booty, Booty!".
2.	Texas	1-0	Defending champs reload and will look to take down the Buckeyes again this weekend.
3.	Ohio State	1-0	They lost 9 out of 11 starters on defense. Good luck in Austin boys, you'll need it.
4.	West Virginia	1-0	The Slaton and White combo is lethal. Their schedule has them making plans for the desert.
5.	Auburn	1-0	Tommy's crew is looking to right the 2004 national championship game. Too bad the odds of going undefeated in the SEC twice in 3 years has to be 1200000000-1. Maybe they could get in with one loss.
6.	Notre Dame	1-0	Beating a middle of the pack ACC team 14-10 isn't that impressive. Maybe, just maybe the Irish were a bit overrated at #2.
7.	LSU	1-0	Don't get caught looking toward that big showdown with Auburn next week. You still have Mike Stoops' Arizona Wildcats to get through. On second thought go ahead and start preparing for the Tigers.
8.	Florida	1-0	Weird how Chris Leak still has to win over fans in Gainesville seeing that he is one of the great quarterbacks in Florida history statistics wise.
9.	Florida State	1-0	Huge win in the Orange Bowl. Defense dominates, but questions linger on offense.
10.	Michigan	1-0	National chamionship victories can only buy so much job security as Lloyd Carr is finding out. Back to the West

Well kids, I'm off to the west again for the second time this summer. This time I'm going out to Denver for work. I'm going to be out there for the next week, so I probably won't be blogging too much. I'll take lots of great photos while I'm out there. Hopefully the lines at Dulles won't be too long tomorrow because of the heightened security. Peace.

The Hokies are Hot!

The Hokies are seriously on a roll. Everytime I check my one of my favorite sites, TechSideline.com, Virginia Tech is getting a verbal commitment for it's 2007 recruiting class. Now usually I am not the type to get into recruitng, but I can't help but take note of all the recruits that VT is getting.

To have 23 recruits by this time of year is amazing. Recruits are picking VT over such powerhouses as, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Ohio State and USC (Sorry Lizzie, but I think you guys can afford to let us have one). There are still some big names out there, like Jay Smith, an outstanding receiver from Virginia and Caleb King, a great running back from Georgia, who list VT as one of their schools of interest. Tech has a good shot at getting these guys and others. I mean, whats not to like about Blacksburg?

I believe this wave of recruits are displaying just how the Hokies are thriving on the college football scene. We are now seeing the fruits of joining the ACC. Over the last two years we have enjoyed greater national exposure and had an increase in revenue. Season tickets are sold out and unless the opposing teams are willing to return their tickets, all of the games this year will be sell-outs.

People in Virginia, the Mid-Atlantic and all over the country are embracing the Hokies. This year and for years to come Virginia Tech fans are going to have a lot to cheer about.

New sidewalks put an extra spring your step

USA Today ran an intersting story yesterday about Washington, DC and other areas that are now using rubber sidewalks. A company called Rubbersidewalks are responsible for developing the product. The sidewalks will reduce the number of times tree uproot the old concrete sidewalks. I'm really hoping that Arlington starts installing the rubber sidewalks because concrete is unforgiving to my joints when I'm jogging. It would be soooo nice jogging on ground-up tire.

Soriano should stay a National

Alfonzo Soriano, the Washington Nationals best player, has made it extremely clear that he wants to stay here in DC and the Nats don't seem to be listening. What kind of prospect could they get to that would be as good as this marquee player? The man has a killer work ethic and loves the team and the city. What else do they want in a player? Maybe trade him for someone who might be good some day? I'm by no means an expert on player personal, even though I did win my fantasy baseball league last year, but that's besides the point.

I don't see why you would trade a great player you already have, for someone who might have the potential to be a great player someday. They are going to need a veteran player around when the Nats are full of young prospects to provide leadership. His fellow teammates rave at how he is the hardest worker on the team. Soriano is constantly saying that he wants to be here to the media. I say let him stay. He can put people in the stands and Washington will embrace him.

The only stumbling block is that I heard he is seeking a "no-trade clause" and the Nats President Stan Kasten does not do "no-trade clauses". So make an exception. Stan Kasten has an amazing track record in baseball. He did a great job he with turning the Atlanta Braves around, but I hope he realizes that the Sorianos don't come around ever often. But maybe, just maybe we can trade Soriano for a player who just might be a solid player someday. I don't think its worth the chance of losing a great player that you already have.

According to Techsideline.com today Tarod Taylor, the latest Hampton Roads high school quarterback phenom, will announce his decision on which college he will attend. Hampton Roads has been a hot bed for quarterbacks since 1994. Here is a breakdown of past Hampton Roads quarterbacks:

He will hopefully follow in the steps of Michael and Marcus Vick and attend Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech is considered a front runner along with the University of Florida for schools that he may attend.

I've recently went on YouTube for the first time to see what all the hubbub was about. I was actaully pretty impressed with the site. You could spend countless hours searching finding video on just about anything. So I've decided to post one of my favorite clips on YouTube, titled "Super Mario Brothers". This clip has apparently been passed around more than Paris Hilton, but in case you haven't seen it here it is.

Caps Fever

Recently I found out that the new Ballston Skating Rink located in the Ballston Commons Mall in my home of Arlington, VA is going to be the new headquarters for the Washington Capitals. This facility will house their practice facility as well as their administrative offices. I think it will be pretty cool to have a professional team's headquarters down the street from my condo. I'm sure I'll be attending a practice session or two.

In other Capitals news, EA Sports has recently announced that Alexander Ovechkin will be on the cover of NHL 07. I don't remember the last time, if ever, a Washington area athlete has been on the cover of any EA Sports game. It's a great honor for Alex to be placed on the cover of the top selling hockey video game franchise in the country.

So for the first time in a long while I'm actually pretty excited about hockey this year. The Caps are probably going to be in a rebuilding phase for the next couple of years, but with the excitiment of having a new facility and having Alex around, I have something to look forward to.

All Signs Point to Sign-A-Rama

Tomorrow night begins my journey into what could be a very successful venture. My father is completely sold on buying a Sign-A-Rama franchise. After several meetings with key area executives and store owners he has decided that this is the way to go. My father has over 20 years of quick-service management experience which should serve him well in running a Sign-A-Rama store. He also has a huge head start with his MBA that he earned from James Madison University. So currently its going to be my mother, father, sister, cousin, and myself involved with this. We all bring different strengths and weaknesses to the table so its going to be interesting. My father and sister tend to be on the outgoing, extroverted side, while my mother and I tend to be analytical and the planning type. As for my cousin, I am not really sure, we will just put her somewhere in between.
